Day 1 of our Sydney Adventure

Day 1 in Sydney

We arrived in Sydney on June 2nd (we left California on May 31st), having lost 1 day due to the change in time. I had a good night’s sleep thanks to the comfortable seat/bed we had on Virgin Australia. My parents were only able to sleep for about 6 hours (the flight is about 15 hours long) but according to them, it was still more sleep than what they would normally get on a flight. I can’t relate because I can fall asleep no matter where we sit!

The weather was cool and cloudy when we arrived. Our hotel was at Darling Harbour so we strolled along the harbor with my Ninang Jamie (my mom’s best friend from elementary school) and had something to eat while we were waiting for our hotel room to be ready. Ninang Jamie flew in from Manila the night before and is vacationing with us in Sydney.

Tito Jech (my mom’s friend from high school) met us at our hotel later that morning. He lives in Sydney and was our official guide while we were in Australia. After lunch at Vapiano (we ate at Vapiano in New York City, too! I love pasta!!!), he took us to Circular Quay to see the Opera House and the Harbour Bridge and the Botanic Gardens. The Opera House was bigger than I expected. It is a very beautiful and impressive building and there were lots of steps that I conquered and pretended to be like Rocky (That’s what my parents say. I don’t know who Rocky is). Tito Jech wanted us to see more sights and wait for the lights of Vivid Sydney to turn on but we were getting tired from our long flight so we returned to the hotel to rest before we had dinner.

Dinner was at Nando's, one of my favorite restaurants. We don't have Nando's in California so we are always excited to eat here whenever we see one around.

Next blog will be all about the Taronga Zoo!
